Speech and Expressive language

Speech is our primary way of connecting to others. Having clear, fluent speech patterns is essential for being understood. Not only that, the quality of our voice and our intonation will influence how we come across and how our meaning is interpreted. Good speech is critical for good social engagement.

Is your child making only very gradual improvements in speech therapy? The problem may actually lie in the receptive component of speech which is affecting the output of speech. To speak clearly, sounds must be received clearly. A history of chronic ear infections is one way distorted hearing leads to distorted speech.

How does iLs help Speech and Expressive Language?

Speech/Expressive language

Safe and Sound Protocol (SSP)

The sense of safety evoked by the SSP can improve voice quality and stimulate spontaneous social engagement. The nerve to our voice box is stimulated by both the SSP and the Focus systems.

Focus System

Fortunately, music and language share the same neurological pathways so that the specially treated music on the Focus system refines the neural pathways for producing clear melodic speech.

A history of ear infections is a major factor affecting speech. The middle ear may have been filled with fluid at the time language was being acquired. The Reading & Auditory Processing Program of the Focus System helps improve the networks associated with decoding and sequencing sounds for speech, fluency of speech and auditory memory.

VoicePro System

The audiovocal feedback loop of the VoicePro System creates a shortcut for hearing and correcting speech sounds, even those of a new language you are learning. This direct feedback loop is the perfect tool to improve articulation, voice (spoken and singing) quality, as well as the mood and energy of the speaker.

My Best Self

All iLs systems come with supervision, either from your current iLs-trained therapist or from an iLs-employed coach who can work remotely with clients who don’t have an iLs provider in their area. You can find an iLs Provider here or contact us to locate someone in your area.

The goal is not a quick fix; it’s lasting change.

Case Studies

Developmental delays, auditory processing weaknesses, and pragmatic language problems

“Regarding articulation errors, Matthew progressed from an imitation word level at 30% accuracy to producing all phonemes at a cued phrase/sentence level with 90% accuracy or greater. Reciprocal interactions improved from a maximum of three circles of communication during an interaction to greater than 25 circles of communication during an interaction. Eye gaze increased from less than one second (at a 20% occurrence) to an average of 4 seconds (at a 75% occurrence).”

We transform lives of children and adults everyday.

  • "M" has been in speech therapy and occupational therapy since he was 20 months old, but at two years old, he had a vocabulary of approximately 15 simple words. When he was 2.5 years old, we introduced the iLs Total Focus program to his therapy repertoire and immediately saw results. Within 20 hours of listening to the program, “M” said his first new word in 9 months. At 36 months, M had a breakthrough and began communicating with us. In conjunction with speech, occupational and ABA therapy, iLs has been an instrumental alternative therapy in my son’s healing and success.
